The live-action adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist is well underway and Warner Bros. has shared the first photo of the manga’s deuteragonist, Alphonse Elric.
The studio hasn’t announced who will voice the character, but his portrayal on screen will be done entirely through CG. In the series, Alphonse lost his body during a human transmutation experiment that went wrong and exists now as a soul bound to a giant piece of armor. His older brother, Edward Elric, also lost an arm and leg as part of the experiment.
Warner Bros. first announced it was going to produce a live-action version of the film based on Hiromu Arakawa’s Hagane no Renkinjutsushi manga last May. The manga, which inspired one of the most successful and beloved anime series of all time, follows the two brothers as they search for the philosopher’s stone so they can restore their bodies back to normality following the failed experiment to resurrect their dead mother.
Warner Bros. also confirmed the film would be released Dec. 1 in Japan, but the studio has not said when the movie will come stateside.
